Welcome to the Pacific Northwest where we can expect rain 156 days per year, averaging 42.8 inches which is 4.7 inches higher than other areas of the United States. So why water when you do not have to?
There are many smart watering system accessories, such as controllers and sensors. Rain sensors are one of the most commonly used methods and do exactly as their name describes, sensing the rain. They are designed to interrupt an irrigation cycle during a rain event. Rain sensors have a series of porous cork discs that when wet, expand and force the sensor to prevent/shut off the controller from watering.
SOLAR SYNC® Weather Sensors are another smart watering system device that detects the weather conditions and includes variables like,
wind, soil type, incline, and what type of turf, plants, and shrubs are growing in the area, and adjust irrigation according to on-site conditions. The Solar Sync sensor is an advanced weather sensor that calculates evapotranspiration (ET) and adjusts your Hunter controller daily based on your local weather conditions. Solar Sync measures sunlight and temperature and uses ET to determine the correct seasonal adjustment percentage value (see image below) to send to the controller. The controller then uses its programmed run time and adjusts to Solar Sync’s seasonal adjustment value to modify the actual irrigation run time for that day.
